Lucknow, May 31: Maharashtra president of Samajwadi Party and MLA Abu Asim Azmi was today strongly condemned by the leaders of the movement seeking justice for deceased Khalid Mujahid. Leaders of Rihai Manch, which is holding indefinite dharna demanding arrest of the police officers responsible for the custodial killing of Khalid Mujahid, attacked Azmi for saying Mujahid died of some disease. Rihai Manch leaders said the statement is to misguide the ongoing probe into the death. An effigy of Asim Azmi was also burnt by activists here in Lucknow.
Today was the 10th day of dharna for the demand of arrest of guilty police officers and release of RD Nimesh Commission which had termed the very arrest of Mujahid as illegal and fake. Reacting strongly on the statement of Asim Azmi, and before him the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and some clerics, that Mujahid died of some disease in police custody, Rihai Manch said: “These statements are to influence the probe into Mujahid’s death, this shows that not just police and IB are behind his killing, but the state government is also involved, and that’s why it is making efforts to save itself even before the probe started.”
Addressing the gathering, former Lok Sabha MP Ilyas Azmi said the irresponsible statement of Abu Asim Azmi is part of dirty politics which should be condemned in strongest terms.
Effigy of Abu Asim Azmi burnt on the 10th day of Riahi Manch indifinite dharna for Khalid’s justice. Family members of Khalid Mujahid and Tariq Qasmi and Milli Gazette editor Zafar Ul Islam Khan will be joining the Dharna on 11th day.
Meanwhile, Association of Indian Muslims of America has lent support to Rihai Manch.
