New Delhi : After a section of Kashmiri students of Jamia Millia Islamia University opposed upcoming Kasheer’ 19 fest, saying it misrepresents the situation in Kashmir, organisers of the event have termed the accusation as false and misleading.
In a rebuttal note the organisers of the event said that Kasheer is a student initiative started by a part of the Kashmiri student fraternity at Jamia Millia Islamia which aims at celebrating cultural diversity of Kashmir.”It is a cultural event aiming to build a community for Kashmiri students studying in and around Delhi. The purpose behind this initiative is and has been the recognition and promotion of different forms of art and artists based in Kashmir. An attempt to achieve same was made last year, with Kasheer’18, where, by means of organising multiple events, the organising team tried to provide a platform to many artists. This year also Kasheer’19 aims at providing a similar platform to more and more artists from different parts of the valley,” reads the statement.
“We are heavily indebted to the business community of Kashmir for their undying support and understanding. We’re also extremely thankful to the artist community in the valley for their constant love and appreciation,” the statement further reads.
One organiser wishing not to be named said “It is because of some insecurities that certain element
WITH our community see this move through the prism of propaganda.”
Earlier some 150 students of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) had expressed dismay over the event ‘Kasheer19’ calling the event ‘a stark misrepresentation of the situation of Kashmiri students studying in different parts of India.’
