Aligarh, 21 Nov 2014 : AMU Students’ Union strongly condemns the brutal Police lathicharge on the peaceful agitation of students of The Banaras Hindu University. The President of AMUSU, Abdullah Azzam believes that the denial of students union to the BHU students is an infringement of Political Rights of the students. The AMUSU President strongly advocates restoration of the elected students Union at BHU.
As of now, BHU students are represented by adhoc students’ council. However, the Lyngdoh recommendations clearly state that the elections of the students union must be held between 6 to 8 weeks from the date of commencement of the academic session. Moreover, it categorically negates the creation of any other arbitrary bodies’ in lieu of students union. As the representative of students at Aliagrh Muslim University, I stand for the democratic rights of students at BHU.
The BHU administrations should stop the attempts to stifle the peaceful students’ movement and grant them their due rights.
It is also surprising to see the violations of democratic rights in the Lok Sabha constituency of the Prime Minister. The failure of restoring democratic rights in the constituency from where PM himself was elected is an alarming sign for the entire nation. The honorable Prime minister should break the silence and uphold constitutional rights of every citizen in the country.
