New Delhi: With a pledge that Punjab will be liberated from the clutch of the Delhi-based political parties, ousted Punjab AAP convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur’s political outfit Apna Punjab Party (APP) has announced that it will contest all the 1117 seats of Punjab assembly in the coming elections. The party also attacked Aam Aadmi Party and cricketer-turned- politician Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Addressing a press conference here after getting election symbol ‘batsman’ from the Election Commission of India, Apna Punjab Party spokesperson A P Singh said Delhi-based political parties always treated Punjab as a mere ‘voter-list’ and done nothing for the development of the state.
“By holding a press conference in New Delhi, we want to convey the strong message that henceforth Punjab won’t be the fiefdom of Delhi-based political parties and we will build a new Punjab,’’ Singh said.
He blamed Congress, Akali Dal and BJP for the sufferings and decadence of Punjab which ruled the state since its existence.
He claimed that it is a political party under the leadership of Sardar Sucha Singh Chhotepur that is taking a fresh look and doing out-of-the-box thinking towards the challenges and opportunities facing the people of Punjab.
In reply to a question on Sidhu, he quipped that Sidhu was a self-centered politician and he was more interested in his TV shows than the saving Punjab from decadence. It is to be recalled that after launching the party in October, party chief Chhotepur had asked Sidhu to join his outfit in the interest of the state. However, there are all possibilities that Sidhu may take refuge in the Congress fold.
Party spokesperson said Chhotepur could not make to the press conference as he was fell ill due to hectic campaigning and adding that the party got registration certificate from the EC on December 29.
