Jehanabad: Communal tension prevailed in Bihar’s town Jahanabad on Thursday following following an incident of stone-pelting during idol immersion. Section 144 has been imposed in the area.

Security forces have been heavily deployed in the town, as markets and educational institutions remained closed and roads deserted, police said.

The sudden attack led to a stampede in which around a dozen people, including four policemen, were injured.

The injured have been admitted to Sadar Hospital.

In the meantime, the devotees, in groups, assembled at various places in the area, demanding strict action against the perpetrators of the attack.

Some reports suggest that there have been fire incidents in the area.

Police have, meanwhile, urged people not to pay attention to rumours.

Administration officials visited the spot to take stock of the situation. Anti-riot Rapid Action Force (RAF) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been deployed in the area.

Meanwhile, the immersion of all Goddess Durga idols has been halted at Panchmahala in the area.

Officials are in talks with locals to let the idols be immersed at Sangam Ghat.
