New Delhi, April 5: Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) today organized a dharna at the Myanmar Embassy in New Delhi against the reported killing of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar (Burma). Leading the demonstration, SDPI Delhi General Secretary Mohammed Jabir demanded intervention of Indian government to stop the killings. The protestors took the rally towards the Myanmar Embassy from the Parliament Street but were blocked by the Delhi Police.
Hafiz Manzoor Ali Khan, SDPI National Vice President while addressing the protestors said: “Muslims, the minority community in Myanmar are under life threat after the communal violence had been evolved as genocide by the Buddhist Fascism against Muslims since last year. Hundreds and thousands of Muslims have been killed. Lakhs and Lakhs of Muslims have lost their homes due to the targeted violence and displaced from their homes. Number of Masjids were set on fire and destroyed”.
SDPI Delhi General Secretary Mohammed Jabir said: “Some monks accosted and threatened journalists trying to cover the unrest, at one point trying to drag a group of several persons out of a van. One monk, whose face was covered, shoved a foot-long dagger at the neck of an Associated Press photographer and demanded his camera. The photographer defused the situation by handing over his camera’s memory card. The group of nine journalists took refuge in a monastery and stayed there until a police unit was able to escort them to safety, two weeks before”.
SDPI Delhi Vice president Shaheen Kausar said: “The Muslim population of many parts of Myanmar is believed to be mostly of Indian origin.”
SDPI demanded the immediate intervention of the Government of India to stop attack on Muslims and the rehabilitation of the affected Muslims.
