Djibouti : Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh confirmed on Monday that the creation of jobs for the unemployed as well as the provision of adequate housing for vulnerable families and low-income people represent the government’s strategic priorities, in order to deliver on promises made during the election campaign of April last year.
In a statement to the local and international media, President Guelleh said: “We have launched a number of mega development projects such as the Addis Ababa–Djibouti Railway and a project to build two international airports. We also intend to build about 10,000 housing units dedicated to vulnerable groups – work has already begun on construction of 1,000 residential units.”
“The fight against youth unemployment is at the forefront of my interests. Therefore, we have to create conditions for improving access to education and to provide various training courses for young people who have left school seats, in order to enable them to engage in the labor market,” he added.—AB/IINA
