Rohit Kansal, Jammu & Kashmir government spokesman, on Tuesday, tweeted that Mehbooba Mufti, former chief minister and head of People’s Democratic Party, is being released.
She was under custody since New Delhi’s (5 August 2019) decision to abrogate special administrative status provided to Jammu & Kashmir.
Following her release, Omar Abdullah, who is Kashmir’s former chief minister and vice president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, tweeted:
I’m pleased to hear that @MehboobaMufti Sahiba has been released after more than a year in detention. Her continued detention was a travesty & was against the basic tenets of democracy. Welcome out Mehbooba.
