Ghulam Mohamamd Khan Sopori, 75, the oldest man booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) has been released by the government from Harayana Jail.
Sopori’s son, Sajad said that he was released recently. He said that his father was suffering from acute illness and has been admitted in a Delhi hospital for the treatment.
He said that Sopori was having heart ailment besides, he also suffered paralysis stroke.
“Now he is in Delhi under treatment,” Sajad said, adding, “He was also suffering from acute physical weakness which led to his weight loss”.
Sopori was arrested in February, 2017 when he was attending a function at a local Shrine in Sopore. He was shifted to Kot Bilwal jail following which three back to back PSA’s were slapped against him.
PSA allows authorities to arbitrarily arrest a man for three month. The detention can be extended up to two years
From November, Soporis family could not locate him as he was shifted from Kotbilwal jail. It was after his release they have come to know that he was lodged in Haryana jail.
