New Delhi : Shiv Sena MP Rajan Vichare, who was seen in a video clip trying to put food into the mouth of a Maharashtra Sadan staffer observing Ramadan fast, Wednesday defended his action, saying he had no idea about the man’s religion.
He also said he was protesting the bad quality of food served at the state guest house in the national capital.
“I respect all religions. The staffer was wearing a civil dress and had no badge that could identify him. I had no idea that he was Muslim,” said Vichare, a first-time Lok Sabha member from Thane. He was also mayor of Thane city.
The video clip, shown in all major television channels, created a storm with opposition MPs disrupting parliament over the issue.
“We were protesting the bad quality food we were getting at the Sadan. We should get good quality food. But it is not so… we were given half cooked vegetables and chapatis that were difficult to even break into two pieces. We did not do anything on purpose,” Vichare told media persons outside Maharashtra Sadan.

This is completely unacceptable behaviour from an MP. If Rajan Vichare is an MP it means he has a degree of education? How can he engage in such low behaviour? It seems to me that he urgently needs to be taught respect for another human being first, and then for his religion. It makes me wonder about Vichare’s upbringing. Such people embarrass the party they belong to, the Shiv Sena, by such uncouth behavior. A sad day for India! When will this “us & them” mentality cease? Each one of us is an Indian first.
It doesn’t matter if respected MP knew his religion or not. You are a national figure and might be representing at international forum if selected for ministry. This is not how u treat your staffs. It is arrogance and this shows how u would treat your staff in closed door. Thanks to Internet that we can see the picture within hours what happened and u can’t deny. You should apologize for your behavior to that staff. Maybe u should fast to control ur anger. May Allah bless u.
This is UNPARDONABLE irrespective of victim religion. The Sena MPs have proved once again that goondaism is their credo and they will stick to it. But even if they didn’t know his relgion, how is forcing a man to eat is Justifiable ?
Agree. Poor way to protest quality of food. No wonder our protests every where turn nasty leading to public property losses for which we end up paying anyway!
Shiv Sena MPs and other Politicians should be educated about Culture and Civilization.
Hindu or Muslim, Rich or Poor, nobody should be treated like this.
Next time, please vote for Educated and Civilized politicians.
