Hepatitis B is the most common serious liver infection in the world, caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV), that attacks and injures the liver. Mostly, adult get infected in respect to children. Most adults who get it have it for a short time and then get better. Usually, it is called an acute self limiting infection which may be either subclinical or symptomatic. Sometimes, the virus causes a long term infection, called chronic hepatitis-B. In approximately 5 to 15 percent of cases hepatitis B virus infection fails to resolve and the affected individuals then become persistent carriers of the virus. The persistent HBV infection may cause progressive liver disease including liver cirrhosis chronic acute hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Hepatitis B virus can form a dangerous alliance with delta virus and produce a new form of virulent hepatitis which is considered to be a wide spread threat for much of the world.
Mode of Transmission
You may get hepatitis B virus if you-
Have sex with an infected person without using condom.
Share needles (used for injecting drug) with infected person.
Get a tattoo or piercing with tools that were not sterilized.
Share personal items like razors or toothbrushes with infected person.
A mother who has the virus can pass it to her baby during delivery, medical experts recommend that all pregnant women get tasted for hepatitis B. If you have the viruses, your baby can get shots to help prevent infection with the virus.
You can’t get hepatitis B from casual contact such as hugging, kissing, sneezing, coughing or sharing food or drinks.
When do you know that have you been infected with hepatitis B?
If, you feel these.
Feeling very tired.
Mild fever.
Headache.
Loss of appetite (Loss of desire to eat ).
Feeling sick to your stomach or vomiting.
Abdominal pain (Stomach pain)
Tan coloured (cloudy) stools.
Dark ( Yellowish ) Urine.
Yellowish eyes and skin (Jaundice). Jaundice, usually appears only after other symptoms have started to go away. But, most people with chronic hepatitis B, have no symptoms.

Reduce your activity and slow down when you are tired.
If, you are feeling tired at work, try to reduce your workload.

Avoid heavy meals and take light foods.

What to do for better treatment?
Treatment depends on whether you-
Have been recently infected with the virus.
Have the symptoms of an acute infection.
Have chronic infection
If, you have not gotten hepatitis B vaccine, you should get hepatitis B Immunoglobulin (HBIG) as per consultation.
If, you have the symptoms of acute infection, treatment with antiviral medicine, usually isn’t needed. Home treatment such as eating well, drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding alcohol and drugs. Usually with relieve your symptoms in some cases, you may be given medicine to treat an acute infection. But, using medicine usually is not done unless a person is very sick.
Further, treatment depends on how active the virus is in your body and percentage of liver damage. Medicine is used if the virus is active and you are at risk for liver damage. If, you develop advanced liver damage and your condition becomes life threatening, you may need a liver transplant. But, not everyone is a good candidate for a liver transplant. In spite of this condition you no need to worry about it.
