Ranchi. Nov 7: In a shocking incident, a man died and another was seriously injured after he was brutally thrashed by a crowd on suspicion of theft in Jharkhand
As per police Mubarak Ansari (48) and Akhtar Ansari (26) were attacked in Bokaro’s Govindpur early on Wednesday when they were returning home with the stolen battery.
One of the youth, Akhtar Ansari, was rescued from the violent crowd while the other youth, Mubarak Ansari was found dead by the police.
The incident is 22nd death due to mob violence in Jharkhand in the past three-and-a-half years.
In a disturbing video of the incident a group of people can be seen hitting Mubarak with slippers and asking him to confess to earlier thefts he had allegedly committed. He is not able to speak and one side of his jaw appears to be broken.
Five people- Premchand Mahato, Hemlal Mahato, Nandan Mahato, Kundan Mahato and Premchand’s wife have been detained in connection with the incident.
SP Bokaro P Murugan speaking to a media outlet said, “They were caught by a few people when they were returning with the stolen battery and beaten up. After police was informed, the two were rushed to a hospital where Mubarak Ansari was declared brought dead. As of now, it does not look like they were targeted because of their religion.”
A case has been registered at Bokaro Thermal Police Station against five people under IPC sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 302 (murder), 307(attempt to murder), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy).
