Amman : King Abdullah II of Jordan has announced that his country will host the 28th Arab League Summit after Yemen declined to hold the annual Arab meeting.
As Yemen announced the refusal, Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit sent a letter to Jordan calling on Amman to host the summit, to which a positive response was received, the Spokesman for the Secretary General Mahmoud Afifi said.
The Petra News Agency quoted Nasser Judeh, deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs, as saying that consultations will now be held regarding the measures and steps needed to agree on the date of holding the summit, and extending invitations to the heads of state of Arab countries.
The Arab League, established back in 1945, comprises of 22 regional states, which are striving to cooperate on political, economic, cultural, scientific, and social issues in order to promote the interests of the Arab world.—AG/IINA
