Meghalaya (USTM): It was not just a coincidence but the occasion to celebrate patriotic day at University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) when Maulana Mohammad Wali Rahmani, General Secretary of Muslim Personal Law Board and President, Rahmani Foundation, visited the University campus on Tuesday.
Maulana was amazed after witnessing the rapid growth and tremendous success of the USTM. He was all praise for Mahbubul Hoque who founded the institution and made spontaneous statement during an informal interaction “ by just raising a hue and cry that minority community is being neglected or not given proper opportunities, will not make sense until and unless they realize their own rights”. For this, Maulana Rahmani said, Muslims need to be enlightened, educated adding that Mahbubul Hoque has set an example for them and they should take inspiration from him.
Lauding his efforts, Maulana Rahmani said Mahbubul Hoque has proved that education is the only key through which we can open the doors of enormous opportunities and empowerment of the community. He also pointed out that the sense of marginalization in the Muslim Community can be mitigated if we look into such exemplary icons like Mahbubul Hoque who has shown the way to Muslims and proved if there is a will, there is a way”.
It was heartening to see that “within a span of short time, USTM has expanded its reach to such an extent, this is wonderful and unbelievable. I am more attracted to see a unique combination of people from all walks of life, working here in the academics, administration and research activities. This perfect coexistence of experts across the society has turn this university into a people’s university”, Maulana Rahmani said.
After taking a look at the campus, Maulana Rahmani also addressed an interactive session with the students, and faculty members of USTM.
Maulana Rahmani was here to deliver a lecture on “Recent Islamic Legal Issues in the context of Indian Constitution” who has been playing an active role in protecting Muslim personal law since the inception of All India Muslim personal Law Board in 1972. He also held several key positions in a host of the minority-related organizations such as the vice-president of Maulana Azad Education Foundation, a member of the Standing Committee on Minority Education, a member of the Bihar Legislative Council and a member of the Central Waqf Council, Govt. of India etc.
After finishing his education at AMU in 2000, Mahbubul Hoque founded USTM in 2008 with his struggle and efforts .
