Aligarh, 12 Nov 2014:’Daughters are not against their father’ and ‘Media dont pollute AMU’ were the slogans of the girls who were protesting against their negative image in media as well as the image of Aligarh Muslim University.
The AMU Students girls as well as the boys were shocked and angered by intense negative portrayal of Aligarh Muslim University in certain sections of the media and the came on road to protest their feelings. For them the anti-women depiction of the historical campus of AMU is not only factually wrong but also an unnecessary sensationalization of a simple administrative issue into an issue of gender bias.
Explaining the matter they said the fact of the matter is that Maulana Azad Library itself has more than 2700 registered female members including PG students, research Scholars and students of various professional courses, who benefit from it on daily basis.
It is only the students of the Women’s College (which is located at a distance of 3 kms from the main campus), students of Senior Secondary schools (Boys and Girls inclusive) and students of University Poly-technique, who are not members of the central library. Since, Maulana Azad Library lacks space to entertain entire student fraternity, so separate arrangements have been made on the basis of departments, faculties and residential halls through book banks and seminar libraries. Also, the case is not that the Women’s College students are deprived from any library services; instead the college has its own library meant to cater the requirements of the college girls. Furthermore, the demand of the Women’s College students’ Union is regarding updating the existing library and providing easy access to the books of Maulana Azad Library. The entire Alig fraternity stands firmly behind these legitimate demands and we will ensure that strong and effective book sharing mechanisms are put in place. We again reiterate that it is an administrative issue and not an issue of gender bias.
One of the protester said ” it has been brought to our notice that the HRD Minister has served a notice to the Vice-Chancellor and has called his statement an “insult to daughters”. It appears that HRD minstry was also swayed by the negative media campaign; However, we would like to state that if the HRD Ministry is so concerned about the students of AMU (its girls students in particular) it should immediately sanction funds for the upgradation of the Women’s College Library. Moreover, it must overrule its decision of reducing the funds allotted for the University”.
The protesters were of the opinion that the remark of Vice Chancellor must be taken positively.
Some of them also term his remark as irresponsible and careless. “We would like to reiterate that the Vice- Chancellor should stop making statements unbecoming of his stature and should ensure that the grievances and problems of the students of AMU particularly those of Women’s College are addressed immediately” they said.
Shukr Alhamdolillah Allah! At last the girl students felt that sensitization of women issue under AMU campus may destruct the image of AMU. It is good that they collectively stood up to defend the pride of University and self proved that women are not being discriminated and suppressed in AMU. It proved that educated Muslim youths can protect the pride of Sir Syed and not allow any fantasy oriented personality to destruct the image of AMU. Maasha Allah La Quwata Illa Billahil Aliul Azeem!.
ye jawab h unlogo ko AMU ko badnam karna chahtey h………….
On one side students say that – “[They also condemned the irresponsible and careless remarks of the Vice- Chancellor. “We would like to reiterate that the Vice- Chancellor should stop making statements unbecoming of his stature]”
On other side – “[The AMU Students girls as well as the boys were shocked and angered by intense negative portrayal of Aligarh Muslim University in certain sections of the media and the came on road to protest their feelings.]”
These are contradictory positions taken by students.
Stop judging them. Mind ur own business…
Its understandable that you have taken a position on this. It would be greatly appreciated if you for a minute consider the possibility that the gentleman’s remarks weren’t worded perfectly and all that the students are asking the media is to bring out the truth in its entirety. One man’s choice of words isn’t the institution’s fault. Throwing dirt on an Indian institution that has stood the test of time for such an issue for a few minutes of sensationalism is unjust.
Gender segregation is an effective tool to combat the rampant sexual harassment epidemic in our country. Those who oppose it because it is an Islamic practice must rethink over it. You oppose a good practice and lot of people suffer because of ur mindless opposition.
Best wishes
In that case Muslims should stop travelling by public transport like trains, buses or air crafts. Even on road there should be separate lanes for these two genders. What about the third gender people which the UNO recognises?
You decide in which category you want to be clubbed.
The whole episode of AMU library is presented by a section of the media which anti-Muslims. The haste of HRD Minister Ms. Irani also proves her and her party’s bias against AMU and Muslims. This is not only surprising but shocking and shameful.
u stay in Canada and dont talk abt india
Why not ?
Who the hell u r to say any one either he should stay in Canada or India. He has every right express his feeling. So keep you shit mouth shut.

Segregation of sexes is the hallmark of Islam and conforms to laws of nature. Those who violate nature will suffer without fail. There is no need to make hue and cry against the VC of the AMU. He made a realistic remark.
Gender segregation is just a fantasy. It can never happen and has never happened in any civilization. This is an invention of some irrational ulemas/religious scholars but is not feasible in the present world. Most of the ulemas who advocate it follow double standards. Their preaching is different for others but when it comes for application on their kith and kins their approach and action changes. This is a harsh reality of our society and we have to accept it.
If some people want to live in the stone age..Let them live.. Why the media is soughing? The environment here seems everyone here are very happy with the decision including the girls. Then what is the problem?
