New Delhi: In order to ‘please’ the new government, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has rejected a documentary film on last year’s Muzaffarnagar riots. The documentary was produced by filmmaker Shubhradeep Chakravorty who was shot to limelight after making a heart-rending documentary on the Gujarat riots of 2002.The documentary ‘En Dino Muzaffarnagar’ also dealt with socio-political fallout of riots in the area.
Chakravorty is a filmmaker with a conscience. He was a journalist but took to documentary filmmaking after the Gujarat riots. His first film was on the Gujarat violence and his second inspired by the murder of Mumbai-based lawyer Shahid Azmi. The documentary on slain Shahid Azmi explored the life threatening conditions in which defence lawyers working on terror related cases operate.
