By Muslim Mirror News Desk,
Ahmedabad : Mukul Sinha, the brave lawyer of Gujarat High Court lawyer who had made a name for himself fighting cases on behalf of the victims of riots that tore through the state in 2002, passed away in Ahmedabad today. He was 63.
He had been suffering from lung cancer since last year, and had been under medical treatment since then. He was admitted to a private hospital in Ahmedabad last night after his condition deteriorated suddenly, and he breathed his last today. He is survived by his wife and a son.
Mr Sinha a Physics graduate from IIT, Kanpur, had emerged as one the fiercest critics of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and his governance model. He had floated an outfit, the Jan Sangharsh Manch, which championed the cause of not only the riot victims, but also those sections of the society which he felt had been bypassed by the state government.
The sudden demise of Mr Sinha has made millions of his well wishers shocked and sad.
Expressing the sorrow over his sudden death his close friends and right activists Rohit Prajapati and Trupti Shah paid their tributes in these words ‘In the spirit he lived and fought against fascist and capitalist forces our real tribute to comrade Mukul Sinha is not in the mourning but a firm resolve to continue the struggle against fascist and capitalist forces specially in present times.
He was one of the founder members of New Socialist Movement, Jan Sangharsh Manch and Gujarat Trade Union Federation.
Through his website, this relentless fighter strived for establishing the truth of Sabarmati Train carnage and carnage 2002 in the Nanavati Commission, the other 2002 cases, fake encounter cases and the deceptive development of Gujarat across India on day to day basis.
We appeal to take today the following pledge at 7 p.m. and everyday wherever we are.
“We solemnly resolve to continue our fight for justice and truth, to uphold the values of human rights, to stand up and speak-out for the oppressed against injustice of all kinds, unafraid of all consequences’.
Mijaj e bebaki ki mishal chali gayi,
andhere ko chirnewali mashal chali gayi.
Mukul Sinha was an exceedingly good person, fought valiantly for underprivileged & downtrodden. He stood up against Modi’s might & fought vigorously for the rights of Gujarat riots victims. A true torch bearer of secularism.
