Mumbai: A special MCOCA court here on Friday has rejected an application of terror accused seeking special foods from home during the Ramadan month. Around two dozen accused, lodged in Arthur jail, have sought court intervention in this matter arguing that it is old tradition of jail of providing special foods to jail inmates during the month of Ramadan. However, Judge L R Pansare said if such facility is allowed to Muslim inmates then other religious inmates will also demand similar arrangement. Special court’s ruling has dejected the Muslim inmates. Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (A), which is fighting cases on behalf the accused, said it will challenge the court order in the Bombay High Court.
Wondering over the judgment, Jamiat’s Legal Aid Committee’s chief Maulana Gulzar Azmi said earlier all courts have allowed home-cooked foods to terror accused during the Ramadan for Sahri and aftar. He said after getting the copies of judgment and taking the opinion of two senior lawyers, a petition will be moved in the Bombay High Court.
