Mumbai: A local esplanade court in Mumbai acquitted on Tuesday all five persons arrested following soon after serial blasts in Mumbai’s local trains in July 2006.They are Irfan Sayed, Najeeb Bakkali, Firoz Ghaswala, Mohammed Ali Cheepa and Imran Ansari.
These persons were arrested by City Crime branch for being members of banned organisation (Students Islamic Movement of India) SIMI and allegedly being involved in unlawful activities.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahesh R. Natu on Tuesday held that the crime branch failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt and acquitted these five persons.
The Court could not prove their involvement due to lack of evidence after examining the eleven witnesses and acquitted them all for their association with banned organization.
The defence lawyers Ishrat Ali Khan, Tahwar Khan Pathan, Jamal Khan, Styaram Gaud and Aftab Qureshi claimed that the police falsely implicated the accused and allegedly planted articles that were shown to have been seized from the accused.
This acquittal is another in case of Muslims being convicted and released later on for lack of evidence.
