New Delhi: Hafiz Azeemuddin, who is a part of a lone Muslim family in Hindu-dominated Rajanpur village in Ayodhya district, has won Panchayat elections, defeating several other candidates.
Azeemuddin attributes his success to his Hindu brethren, who reposed faith in his leadership. “I am sure that of the 200 votes I secured, only 27 will be from Muslims – because in my village there are only 27 Muslim voters,” Azeemuddin told The Wire. The 27 Muslim voters belong to his extended family.
“My victory is an example of Hindu-Muslim affinity not only in village Rajanpur but entire Ayodhya,” he said.
Azeemuddin, a farmer by profession, holds the degree of Hafiz and Aalim from a madrassa. He taught in a madrassa for 10 years before joining his family in farming.
Commenting on Azeemuddin’s victory, Athar Hussain, secretary of Ayodhya Mosque Trust, said: “It is a manifestation of our pluralism. It shows that the idea of cultural harmony in India survives despite all odds. Let us strengthen the bond of harmony and fraternity.”
Its a strong indication to the BJP that there is no differences between Indians. If at all any, are temporary and created by the dirty politics. Let’s unite together and make our nation stronger.
