Chennai: Leaders from different Muslim outfits, Federation of political parties led by Tamil Nadu Jamathul Ulema SabaiĀ president Moulana Moulavi P A Kaja Moinuddin Baqafi after taking part at the conciliatory talks organised by Tamil Nadu government Chief Secretary K Shanmugham resolved to continue with their agitation till a resolution against CAA, NPR and NRC is passed in the Tamil Nadu State Assembly.
The meet convened by chief secretary was aimed at allaying the fears of Muslims about CAA and to seek the organisations to withdraw their sit-in protest against CAA, NRC and NPR. During the one hour forty five minutes deliberations, the chief secretary urged the organisors to call off their agitation citing the reason that the other party supporting CAA is also conducting demonstrations across the State resulting in untowards incidents. He went on to say that this is a piquant situation posing a threat to peace.
Earlier, the organisors submitted a memorandum with their charter of demands including passing a resolution in the State Assembly against CAA. The chief secretary is understood to have told the members that their petition would be submitted to Chief Minister alongwith their views expressed at the meet.
State Home Secretary S K Prabhakar alongwith top honchos of the police department led by DGP L K Tripathy, Chennai City Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan, Intelligence IG and some other top ranking officials participated at the meet.
Muslim organisations were represented by Manithaneya Makkal Katchi president Prof M H Jawahirullah, All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) memberĀ A S Fathima Muzaffer and IUML general secretary Aboobacker, MLA, Federation Coordinators Mansoor Kashifi, Indian National League Basheer, SDPI president Nellai Mubarak, Indian Towheed Jamath president S M Backer, vice presidentĀ Mohamed Muneer, Yegathuva Muslim Jamath (YMJ) Althafi,Ā State Jamathul Ulema Sabai executives besides members representing political outfits.
Noteworthy to mention that Muslim men and women-folk alongwith their children are on sit in protest similar to Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh against CAA, NRC and NPR since February 14 at Washermanpet in Chennai followed by continuous protest at Mannadi. And this spread to other parts of the city across Tamil Nadu with Muslims commencing sit in protest.
It may be noted that the Jamaathul Ulema Sabai leaders alongwith Muslim leaders from several political parties and organisations met Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy seeking him to pass a resolution against CAA in the State Assembly. They also submitted a memorandum in this connection, And CM had promised to look into their pleas. To the utter shock of Muslim leaders, the CM during the deliberations in the Assembly told the opposition leader Stalin that a resolution cannot be passed in the Assembly.
