“They beat me like a football. They also used knife” Israil said. He has received grave injuries in his neck.
The assailants are reportedly associated with Hindu nationalist organisation Bajrang Dal.
According to his complaint application filed in the nearby Mehsi police station, the assailants said, “Chant Jai Shri Ram or we will cut you into pieces”.
In the application, he has named seven of the accused. The police have registered a complaint against six people. However, no arrest has been reported so far.
India has witnessed rising numbers of mob lynching incidents against its religious minorities, more often Muslims. However, no effective mechanism has come into force to put a cap on such incidents.
The lynching of Muslims is purportedly caused by anti-Muslim hatred fuelled by hate mongers on social media sites and mainstream news channels.
India’s news channels have been accused of spreading hatred against religious minorities by several independent organisations.
Recently, the news channels faced criticism for portraying Muslims as super spreaders of Covid-19 after a congregation attended by foreign members of Islamic missionary group Tablighi Jamaat in New Delhi in March led to a rise in coronavirus case in India.
