Kozhikode (Kerala), Sep 25 : Contending that the definition of secularism has been distorted, Prime Minister Narendra Modi invoked Jan Sangh ideologue Deendayal Upadhyaya on Sunday to say that Muslims should be treated as “your own” rather than seeing them as “items of vote market”.
Addressing the BJP’s national council meeting in Kozhikode, he said his government’s mission of ‘sabka sath, sabka vikas’ is not a political slogan but a commitment to ensure welfare of the last man in the society.
In his speech, Modi spoke at length about secularism, balanced and inclusive growth and need for electoral reforms while paying tributes to Upadhyaya on his 100th birth anniversary.
“These days, the definition has been distorted. Even nationalism is cursed these days,” he said.
While talking about life and contribution of Upadhyaya, Modi quoted him as saying: “Don’t reward or rebuke Muslims. Empower them. They are not items of vote market nor are they substance of hate. Treat them as your own.”
At the conclusion of the two-day BJP conclave aimed at making inroads in Kerala, the Prime Minister traced the party’s journey from the days of Jan Sangh and asserted that “we never compromised with our ideology”.
He said if the BJP had compromised with the ideology, it could have attained power long back.—IANS
Dear Mr.PM Its very easy to say. What your Army is doing in Kashmir to Muslims & the game played by killing own soldiers as done killing own Hindus in Train to massacre Muslims & defame Pakistan .
Your media reporting ,Pakistan mistreated with a White Reporter. How Muslims will trust Them When they Involved Saddam to attack Kuwait.
Muslims must be alert world wide against the Non Muslim terrorists.
UNO is Voice less & dead on Kashmir.
I spoke to friends in Bangladesh. I was told that Bangladesh is pleasing Modi under duress & appointing all Hindus in Higher posts including judiciary.
Every political party considers a particular community as vote bank only. BJP considers upper caste hindus as vote bank & congress considers muslims as vote bank. You can not stop it.
If muslim community really wants their progress then they should not be dependent on government or any political party. They can achieve this by coming together on the basis of common goal. They should run like a parallel government. Presently muslim community is not united together & due to this even though you have 15% population share, political parties give less importance to muslim development. I think your development agenda can be:
1) Achieve 100% literacy of muslim community.
2) Rich muslims should start private business & recruit mainly muslims.
3) Adopting ‘hum do humare do’ policy.
4) Rich muslims can start educational institutes for muslims.
5) Helping talented muslim students for higher studies.
6) Motivating muslim women to make career even after marriage.. & so on..
Thank You Mr Secular Hindu,
You are very kind to advice the Muslim Community in India and they should seriously consider it. I also have seen that in India less importance have been given by the government to Muslim community because of the division within the community. In the Loksabah there should be 75 – 80 members whereas there is only 23 members to represent 15% Muslim population (200 mn) of the total population of India. This is a clear evidence for the division and the literacy rate of the Muslim community.
You are a real secular person and wish you to be a Bridge between the Muslims and the others with different faith and believes.
