New Delhi: Opposition parties came down vehemently on the Modi government and the ruling party BJP for growing brutal attacks on Dalits and Muslims by the Hindu radicals in the name of cow protection. They raised the issue forcefully in the Upper House of Parliament on Wednesday accusing the government and BJP-ruled states of giving free-rein to so-called cow vigilante groups that created a huge uproar in the House.
Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said using cow protection as an excuse to target Muslims and Dalits is highly condemnable and he asked the ruling party to tell their cadres of RSS to desist from targeting innocent Muslims and Dalits across the country.
BSP chief Mayawati first took up the issue and tore into the government, accusing it of running a hate campaign against Dalits and minorities. Citing brutal attacks on two Muslim women in Mandsur, MP in the presence of Police, Mayawati protested against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “silence” on the issue and what she termed as “inaction” against cow vigilante groups by the governments at the Centre and BJP-ruled states. “The BJP raises the slogan ‘Mahilaon ke samman mein, BJP maidan mein’ slogan, yet in BJP ruled Madhya Pradesh women thrashed on beef rumours,” she said.
Congress also joined in the protest, labeling the government as ‘anti-Dalit’ and ‘anti-women’ and condemned inaction of the government. Senior congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said the party is not against cow protection but it condemned atrocities on Dalits and Muslims.
Members from opposition ranks immediately joined the protest raising slogans against the government. They also entered the well of the House forcing the chair to adjourn the House.
Issuing a separate statement after the debate in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed grave concern over the unlawful activities of the cow vigilantes. He stated that “We are not against cow protection rather we are all in favour of cow protection but at the same time we strongly condemn the organisations which use cow protection as an excuse to target Muslims and Dalits.”
Azad put the discussion to rest and advised the ruling party to tell their cadres of RSS to desist from targeting innocent Muslims and Dalits across the country. Of late a number of violent incidents were reported from different parts of the country where Muslims and Dalits had been subjected to torture causing even death without verifying whether they were carrying beef or not”.
A string of incidents reported from BJP-ruled states as Hindu radicals became so embolden that they have no fear of law and attacking Muslims and Dalits with full impunity. After the Una incident in Gujarat, two Muslim women were slapped, kicked and abused by a crowd led by self-appointed cow protectors at Mandsur railway station in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. In a mobile phone video taken by one of the many spectators who did nothing to stop the attack, policemen are seen making half-hearted attempts to control the raging mob. Even police filed cases against the victims and not arrested any culprits who attacked these hapless women.
Please take notice on Vedaas. We believe that common Hindu brothers are ignorant of what their religion preaches. They are simply going against their own religious scriptures.
