Ramallah : Palestinian Prime Minister Rami al-Hamdallah met Thursday with Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, who briefed him on the latest developments in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, amid an escalation in Israeli attacks.
Hamdallah warned against Israel’s continued provocative actions in the holy city and the settlers’ storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. He reiterated his call for the international community to shoulder its moral and legal responsibility to provide international protection for the Palestinian people.
The prime minister paid tribute to the Jerusalemites for their resilience in the battle for Al-Aqsa Mosque, which prevented the implementation of the Israeli plans to change the status quo in the mosque.
Hamdallah affirmed that Jerusalem will remain the eternal capital of the State of Palestine and that it is a top priority for the Palestinian leadership and government. He also emphasized the need for providing all forms of support to the city.
In this context, the prime minister appealed to the Arab and Islamic nations to effectively show solidarity with the Jerusalemites and to support Jerusalem in a tangible way, in view to strengthening the steadfastness of its people on their land.
