Chennai: Suresh Kumar, the Tiruvallur district president of the radical outfit Hindu Munnani was killed by unknown assailants on June 18. The members of Hindu Munnani unleashed violence and attacked the public, business institutions and churches. Buses were also pelted with stones and this affected the daily routine of the commuters. The members also resorted to violence while the body of Suresh Kumar, was taken for cremation in his home district of Kanyakumari. Police believe that personal or business enmity may be the reason behind the murder.
Meanwhile, the Christians in the Chennai city participated in the one day long token fast condemning the attack on Christian places of worship and on the public. Father Esra Sargunam, presided over the protest.
M. Mohamed Shaik Ansari, State Vice president of Popular Front of India, Nagoor Meeran, South Chennai district president and other office bearers participated in this protest fast and registered their protest. Popular Front of India expressed its solidarity with the Christians and vehemently condemned the cowardly act of the radical outfit Hindu Munnani. The leaders also visited those whose vehicles were damaged in the riots and expressed their condolences. Popular Front of India and the advocates’ wing of Social Democratic Party of India have assisted those who were affected in the riots and have registered cases against the anti-social fascist elements.
