Press Council to hear PFI’s complaints against 10 dailies on 16 July

PFINew Delhi, June 21: The Press Council of India has issued intimation to ten newspapers to appear before the inquiry committee for hearing on 16th July in response to the complaints filed by Popular Front of India, said O.M.A. Salam, General Secretary of the organization here on Friday.

Popular Front approached the Press Council of India, the regulatory body over media, in April, last year against ten newspapers viz., Dainik Jagran Hindi Daily (Meerut), Dainik Jagran Hindi Daily (Delhi), Hindustan Times English Daily (Lucknow), The Asian Age English Daily (Delhi), Deccan Chronicle English Daily (Ernakulam, Kerala), Nav Bharat Times Hindi Daily (Delhi), The Inquilab Urdu Daily (Delhi), The New Indian Express English Daily (Calicut, Kerala), The Sunday Guardian English Weekly (Delhi), The Pioneer (Delhi) for publishing defamatory news against the organization with malicious intention to lower and damage its reputation. Subsequently, the complaints were taken on the file and show cause notices were issued to the newspapers.

Now the Council has issued intimation to said newspapers to appear before the inquiry committee for hearing on 16th July. The advocates Bahar U. Barki, Maroof Ahmed and A. Mohamed Yusuff will represent Popular Front of India in the Council.
