New Delhi, July 1: Dr. Najeeb Jung, the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, was today named the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi by President of India. He will replace Tejendra Khanna. Mr. Jung will be the first Muslim to become Lt. Governor of Delhi. Delhi has got Lt. Governor since 1966. Nineteen Lt. Governors have since been appointed – none of them was Muslim. Dr. Jung, 62, was appointed Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia in 2009. The 1973 batch IAS officer Dr. Jung has served as IAS for 22 years.

• Senior Advisor (Energy): 7 years at the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
• Senior Visiting Fellow and Research Scholar at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, Oxford University: 7 years. During this period, wrote two monographs in two volumes published by Oxford University on `Gas Issues in Asia’.
• Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia since 2009.
• Regular columnist to national and international newspapers.
