To say the truth requires courage and a journalist is essentially believed to be a person who possesses courage as they are basically involved in baring open the truth and bringing it to the people at large for the common good. While carrying out his/her job a journalist puts everything under his/her possession at risk, sometimes his/her life is at stake.
In a democracy like India, Press is considered the fourth pillar of a democratic set up. And we all know what democracy means. It is defined as “for the people, of the people and by the people”. So democracy stands for people.
Journalism involves being the voice of the people but when journalism thrives on government crutches, it ceases to the voice of the people rather it becomes tool of propaganda for the government.
This is exactly is being seen in the case of Arnab Goswami,Editor in Chief of Times Now Channel who seems to the propaganda machine for the present government headed by Narendra Modi who chose to give his first TV interview to none other than Arnab Goswami whom the government is to provide ‘Y’ category security cover.
During the said interview, the world saw how Arnab voice was gasping with breath in front of the PM which is never his USP while dealing with whomsoever it may be on his Newshour debate. He is generally seen yelling at the guests, not allowing the guests to complete their opinion, even sending out the gusts out of his studio if the guests do not toe his carved line of thinking.
Arnab, who claims to be fearless, should have shown courage in not succumbing to the cover that the current establishment has provided him. Had he refused the privilege, he would have done service to the nation and called a real nationalist (which he tries to give the impression) as he knows that the money which is going to be spend on his security is poor men tax money.
In fact, a journalist job entails interacting with people from different background. Journalism, in the course of job, often meets and exposes extremists, social rejects and many other such persons who can pose danger to his/her life. But seldom do journalists, even one facing gravest of threats, ask for security.
Any privilege extended by the establishment is bound to compromise the journalist’s ability to be a watchdog that can question and oppose the government policy.
Many journalists working in the most dangerous situation like war zones never asked for security cover while Arnab sitting in four walled space of his studio required the security cover and the government provided him the cover as they got sure that this move will ensure secured cover to any questioning to the governance of the country.
It is really a sad day for journalism as well as for democracy in our country as this kind of favour by the establishment will damage the journalistic independence and its credibility.
Hahaha!!! Look who is complaining about the propaganda???
Arnab is a mentally retarted . Modi ka yekka . Used in politics before elections . Modi is a slow poison snake . World knows the facts of crimes he did . How he came out clean from judiciary . He is playing all his cards to rule the country with dictatorship . Now everyone asks the evidences .Modi is good in wiping all evidences..God is great .His judgement is the one and only .No one can change his judgement .pray and wait .
