Deterioration in the Muslim’s world educational quality could be analyzed from the perspective of many modern challenges and pertinent issues..An excellent article pinning out the collective failure of research in the Muslim world highlights issues engraving the educational system [i].If the Muslim countries government continue to abdicate its responsibilities towards quality education then the Muslims societies must act immediately to bring things in order. Glorifying the Muslims scientific inventions [ii] to advance Muslim causes in the field of science and technology will not develop research mindset and now appears incongruous to the point with no future orientation.Thus, being so paradoxically evaluated by the future oriented mindset, Muslims societies themselves suffer from an ambiguity of confusion.
Battery of professors were hired from Western universities to teach in gulf countries to provide best education to the students and spending huge amount of money on teachers placement. Although, English is a global language yet the relevance of vernacular languages is not denied altogether. The essence of message is lost and focus finally, built on finishing the course on time. University students are walking on a tightrope to follow all the class room lectures as the God given gospels with no room for questioning.The decadence in Muslim world started when everyone stops questioning and readily accepting everything.
Schooling plays an important part in building confidence and make pupils ready to attain next level of study. School education in most Muslim countries follow copy-cat standards to the western pedagogy and are in a race to make big profits and more pupil enrollment.Quality in the most school in Muslim countries is adjudged with fancy dress competition,teaching culinary skills and improving English accent with least importance given on imparting real education.Perhaps, in the last decade schools are working in collaboration with western universities to implement 21st century educational skills in gulf countries. Educational regulators making targeted planning with a list of do’s and don’t to prepare pupils to face 21st century with intelligence and confidence. Intense focus on differentiation based and activity centered studies with many innovation educational platforms ranging from STEM based focus to innovative teaching methodologies.All the platforms used to bring pupils on the thinking table to develop and inculcate critical thinking in them. All the theories testified on students with least attention given to the teacher and bridge their role as “facilitators” than educators. Focusing on the current trend with no importance given on conceptualizing the learning somewhere lost the relevance of the lecture.
Schools in gulf are not in a dominant position to reject students on the basis of poor performance and most schools vying with one another for higher enrollment and afraid to loss business in terms of lost students fees to other schools. Quality of teachers is pathetic and most school management focus on recruiting with low salary to minimize cost.
Every successful idea begins with a theory that passes through a number of testing platforms.
Theory is tested, verified and then implemented in the market and the whole process from idea generation to idea implementation span long time. Most of scientific inventions done in the west and the situation is made compatible to test and verify the theories. Incredible success in research in the past 100 years in western countries is more than the total research done globally in the past 5000 years. Western universities develop a frame-work to implement ideas and collaborate with industry to verify and implement discovery.
It’s rather incongruous to compare present Muslim world with the western world because of the complexities in the society and openness to ideas. However, baby steps on reforming the basic education will bring a sea change in terms of research output in future in Muslim world.
Gulf countries control much of the oil wealth and easily implement the program to improve the quality of the education. There is so much literature available in Muslim countries to studied and provide lots of ideas. The universities in Muslim world should come “out of denial” and focus on selecting best students from poor Muslim countries. Working on serious lacunae and inconsistencies, which require to be dealt with better-crafted policies to control under-performance in Muslim world education.By doing so the Muslim world education relates the present-day needs and experiences with the historical scientific discoveries and innovations?
