Tehran: Members of Parliament Abdolkarim Hosseinzadeh from Naqadeh and Oshnavieh was elected as secretary and Mohmmad Qasim Osmani from Bukan was elected as supervisor of the interim Majlis presiding board.
Speaking to IRNA, Mohammad Qasim Osmani said the opponents of the Islamic Republic of Iran should understand that there is no discrimination between the Shia and Sunni Muslims in Iran.
He said that those who fan the flame of discord in the country, wished to undermine national solidarity, but, to no avail.
In Iran, people play vital role to bolster co-existence despite the ethnic and religious diversity and that the minorities enjoy the chance to attain higher status in the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said.
In today’s voting, Masoud Pezeshkian with 154 votes and Mohammad Dehqan with 136 votes of the total 279 votes were elected as interim deputy speaker of the parliament.
Larijani won the contest against Mohammad Reza Aref who represents Tehran constituency.
He won 173 votes in favor to take the post of the interim speaker.
Voting to elect the interim presiding board of the parliament was held in the second formal session Sunday.
The new parliament took office on Saturday with a special ceremony in presence of senior officials.
The 10th parliament opened officially after hearing a message from the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei to the new parliament and an inaugural speech by President Hassan Rouhani.—IRNA
