14 people including five members of a family were killed and five others were injured in a blast that took place at a house in Bihar’s Bhagalpur on the intervening night of Tuesday and Friday. According to the police, an illegal firecrackers manufacturing unit was being run from the house.
The house was rented to one Leelawati Devi by one Mohammad Azad. Devi and four other members of her family are among the deceased. Other victims of the blast has been identified as Mahendra Mandal, Rahul Kumar and Urmila Devi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his grief over the unfortunate incident. In a tweet, he said he spoke to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in connection with the same.
No arrest has been made in the matter so far. Bhagalpur SSP Baburam said: “We have been busy with the relief and rescue operations and would look into the matter thoroughly soon.
Bihar DGP SK Sibghal told reporters: “Primary investigation has suggested that an unlicensed firecracker manufacturing unit was being run from the rented house. The ATS will probe the matter. FSL samples are being collected”. Gun powder and iron nails, used in making crude bombs and firecrackers, have been seized from the spot, he said.
