New Delhi :A special train carrying 700 Tablighi Jamaat members left for Tamil Nadu from the national capital at 2 pm Saturday.
These Jamaat members were taken to different quarantine centres in the national capital after the Nizamuddin incident. They show no signs or symptoms of COVID-19 or have recovered from the illness and are ready to travel back home.
The arrangement was done based on the special request by Tamil Nadu government.
Several Tamil Muslim organisations were pressurising the state government for their release from quarantine centers in Delhi bringing them back to Tamil Nadu.
Special buses also have been arranged from the quarantine centre to the train station, and subsequently from Chennai station to respective home towns.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Delhi High Court heard a plea seeking transfer of Nizamuddin case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The court adjourned the hearing into the matter to May 28 after Delhi Police opposed the petition stating that investigation is going on fine.
The petition was filed by advocate Ghanshyam Upadhyay who has sought charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act UAPA act against Maulana Saad.
Meanwhile, the chief of Tablighi Jamaat, Maulana Saad, is among those booked under various sections for allegedly violating lockdown norms.
At least 17 people have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder for holding a gathering in the Nizamuddin Markaz in March which the authorities say led to a big jump in coronavirus infections in India.
