Saudi Arabia’s new model of development seems to be largely dependent on Yasir bin Othman Al-Rumayyan, who takes advice from American entertainer Carla DiBello, triggering massive concerns in the Kingdom.
A close associate of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, Al-Rumayyan’s closeness with DiBello is not welcomed by many in the Kingdom, but they are tight-lipped, preferring to refer to photographs of their cordial relations instead of speaking anything on the issue.
Al-Rumayyan is Governor of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the sovereign wealth fund of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the chairman of Newcastle United F.C. and the Chairman of Saudi Aramco. Recently Al-Rumayyan has joined the Board of Reliance, India-based firm, as an independent director. In the last one year, Al-Rumayyan’s PIF has invested billions of dollars in Reliance ventures.
PIF invested Rs 9,555 crore in Reliance Retail and Rs 11,367 crore in RIL’s Jio Platforms. Also, Aramco is in talks to buy a 20 per cent stake in Reliance’s oil-to-chemical business.
The Mukesh Ambani-led firm has been facing accusations from India’s opposition politicians, mainly Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, of hugely financing the Narendra Modi government through various means. It also owns a number of news channels, most of which evidently spew venom against Muslim minority and opposition political parties.
Carla DiBello is a close friend of Kim Kardashian who has become a high-profile player in Saudi Arabia‘s investment scene, introducing companies to the Kingdom’s $300bn sovereign wealth fund and raising eyebrows over her rise to the highest echelon of the Gulf country’s business scene, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Interestingly in past MBS had offered $ 10 million to spend a night with Kim Kardashian.
Last October, DiBello met business leaders on a mega yacht that Al-Rumayyan chartered, staying aboard several days as part of a Red Sea boating event hosted by MBS, people familiar with the event told the WSJ.
Soon afterward, DiBello began telling people of her growing role as an adviser at PIF, a source told the newspaper.
It is to be noted that DiBello, at 21, worked as an assistant to casino magnate Steve Wynn.
Sources tell the WSJ DiBello is helping the PIF to negotiate a $445bn deal to purchase a majority stake in English Premier football club Newcastle United.
Speaking about the project, DiBello told Arab News: “This was a project that I was so passionate about and I really fought to make because it was so important that I wanted my peers in the US to really see what I experience living in the Middle East.”
People are angry about the development inside the Kingdom, but they are not opening their mouth out of fear.
A soft porn star promoting holy land, I am crying from inside as many others, said a Saudi businessman.
It’s a shame and scandal that Carla has now become the face of Saudi Arabia, told a lady to this correspondent.
All kinds of girls are being used by PIF and the Tourism Ministry to promote Saudi Arabia.
Just look at her pictures, said a former diplomat. Why have we stooped so low, he added.
