Shiv Sena’s lone Muslim MLA Abdul Sattar is also part of the group of legislators who have rebelled against the Uddhav Thackeray-led government in Maharashtra and wants BJP led government in state.
Abdul Sattar is apparently backing the rebel politicians who wants to protect Hindutva politics in Maharashtra. This implies enabling verbal and physical attacks on Muslims, Christian and other religious as well as ethnic minorities and making their lives difficult in the state.
According to a PTI report, the Muslim MLA had voted for the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party in the Rajya Sabha polls held for six seats in Maharashtra on 11 June. BJP MLA Santosh Danve confirmed the same while speaking to reporters. He said, “I am sure Sattar would help BJP once again in the upcoming Assembly elections as he did in the Rajya Sabha elections.”
Abdul Sattar is a three-term MLA from Maharashtra’s Sillod constituency. He switched to Shiv Sena from Congress in 2019. He was a minister for a brief period of time in 2014 in the Congress-led government in the state.
Aurangabad MLA Sattar is the only Muslim leader who is a state minister, was reportedly unhappy for not being given a significant cabinet position.
