Demanding immediate release of their jailed leader Chandrashekhar Azad, hundreds of  Bhim Army  supporters gathered at Muzaffarnagar Collector office on Friday. The agitators threatened of converting to Islam in case their demands are not met by March 19.

Supporters of Bhim Army and Shaheed Udham Singh Sena, a lesser known Dalit outfit, reached Muzaffarnagar collectorate and raised slogans against the government and UP police.

Earlier, protests were also held in Haridwar, Shamli and Saharanpur.

Talking to Times of India, Teekam Baudh, in-charge of Bhim Army in Muzaffarnagar, said, “This is height of injustice. Chandrashekhar Azad completed three months in jail on November 2 last year and even the High Court ordered his release. But the UP government slapped NSA on him for another three months. The HC will again hear the matter on March 19 and if the government does not release him on that date, all of us will convert to Islam.”

It is pertinent to mention that supporters of Bhim Army have also initiated ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ in support of their imprisoned leader.
