New Delhi: Deep Narayan Upadhyaya, a Bharatiya Janata Party worker  and Ayodhya mayor Rishikesh Upadhyaya’s nephew bought a property of 890 sq meters on 20 February 2021 for 20 lakh rupees from a mahant, Devendra Prasadacharya and sold it to the Ram Janmbhoomi trust set by the Modi government for 2.5 crore rupees after three months, reported Newslaundry (NL).

The temple trust purportedly paid more than the market value as the property’s circle rate – the minimum amount of sale decided by local authorities – remained Rs 35.6 lakh at the time of its sale, the NL report added.

The NL came to the conclusion after confirming the details of transactions from the website of the Integrated Grievance Redressal System, Uttar Pradesh, or IGRS UP.

The property is located at Kot Ramchandra, Haveli Awadh, under Sadar tehsil in Ayodhya.  It is adjacent to the so-called Ram Janmabhoomi.

The day Narayan bought the 890 sq metre property from Prasadacharya, he also sold another piece of land in Kot Ramchandra to the temple trust for 1 crore rupees. This property of 676.86 sq metres, was sold at a rate of Rs 14,774 per sq metre. At a circle rate of Rs 4,000 per sq metre, this property – 500 metres from the temple complex – is valued at Rs 27.08 lakh.

Anil Mishra, a trust member, is listed as a legal witness to these purchases made by Ram Janmbhoomi Trust.
