Chennai: Known for delivering voluntarily services in the time of calamities and natural disasters, the launching program for the ‘rescue and relief volunteers group’ of Popular Front is set to be a milestone in the field of rescue and relief works in the country.
E. Abubacker, the Chairman, Popular Front of India inaugurated the function and delivered the keynote address during its inaugural function held on August 27 at Centenary Auditorium , University of Madras in Chennai.
Explaining the objectives of this new initiative by Popular Front he said, “Whether it is a Natural calamity or an epidemic disease it will affect all the sections of the society irrespective of religion or caste. In such an unexpected and critical situation, Popular front cadres work voluntarily and swiftly on the ground to help the victims. The formation of the rescue and relief volunteers group will professionalize our relief work and also help us to utilize our vast experience to train new volunteers. If there is a proper guideline from the government our cadres would extend these humanitarian services throughout India.”
Popular Front’s relief and rescue work have been widely appreciated by various state governments, officials, NGOs and famous personalities. Our cadres have the experience of carrying out relief work during Tsunami, Chennai Floods, Assam and Bihar Floods and Mangalore Flight accidents to mention a few. The formation of the new group will allow us to increase the reach of our relief activities by coordinating with government agencies and other disaster management organizations.
The programme was attended by a many prominent personalities which included R.Natraj, Former Director General of Police and MLA of Mylapore, KKSM Dehlan Baqavi State President SDPI , Bharathi Tamilan, Sub Editor, The Hindu News, Sundara Rajan, Coordinator – Poo Ulakin Nanbarkal, AK Hanifa, Coordinator of Federation of Muslim Political parties and organization. M.Mohamed Ismail, Tamilnadu State President, Popular Front of India, presided over the program. Mohamed Sheik Ansari, General Secretary, Popular Front of India welcomed the gathering.
