People from different faiths joined together with their Muslim brethren in forming human chain to protest against CAA, NRC and NPR from Podanur bazaar road to Kurichi Pirivu on Friday. Braving the heat, both young and the old including children lined up the long stretch on Podanur main road from 1.30 pm to 3.pm shouting slogans seeking the Centre to repeal CAA, NRC and NPR which is termed to be against the interests of minority communities more so Muslims.
Notably, a consultative committee meet of all jamath heads including Towheed, JAQH besides residents association spread across Podanur and Sundarapuram took part to organise a human chain soon after the Jumma prayers. Heads of Tamil Nadu Ulema Sabai, Coimbatore, Tirupur and Nilgiris region were also present on the occasion. Following which, announcements were made at the respective mosques during prayer timing all thru’ the week with a view to make residents from across the Podanur neighbourhood to raise their voice in unison against CAA, NRC and NPR.
Large number of Ulemas, jamath office bearers, resident welfare association representatives alongwith memebers took active participation in the human chain. Protestors armed with placards of No to CCA, No to NRC and No to NPR were seen along the long stretch with tricolour half cap and head band.Interestingly, people cutting across communal lines also extended their support to the protest human chain from Podanur to Kurichi Pirivu. A redeeming feature of this human chain is that even those who were confined to homes due to ill-health came forward to join the human chain rally. And purdah-clad women-folk were also part of the protest rally. The one and a half hour human chain ended off peacefully.
