New Delhi: A Delhi court has framed charges against seven persons in connection with the killing of a Muslim man during the widespread pogrom witnessed in the city in February 2020, Live Law reported.
The deceased man was identified as Monis, a resident of Samaypur Badli. He had been thrashed by the rioters and then shot dead in northeast Delhi’s Chand Bagh area on February 25, last year.
Monis’s alleged killers have been identified as local residents of Brijpuri — Aman Kashyap, Arun alias Munna, Pardeep Rai, Ashish alias Goli, Devender, Krishankant and Rahul Bhardwaj. All of them were arrested just a few days after the incident. The Delhi police had also submitted its chargesheet in the murder case and had booked all seven for murder, rioting, unlawful assembly among other sections.”
An FIR was registered on 1st March last year wherein one Monish, who got admitted in the hospital by unknown persons, was declared as brought dead.
It was the prosecution’s case that during the course of investigation, an eye witness namely Manoj Kaniyal had identified Monish from the footage of CCTV camera installed at GTB Hospital, who also disclosed that Monish was carrying sweets with him at the time of incident.
According to the Prosecution, the eye witness had also stated that Monish was beaten by a mob with laathi/danda/talwar which also started pelted stones, as soon as they came to know that he belonged to Muslim community.
