Hyderabad, 10 Dec 2014 Eminent academic and activist Prof Rehana Sultana passed away today after a prolonged illness. She was 58.
Prof Rehana, the Dean, School of Arts & Social Sciences, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) based here, was associated with the varsity right from its early days and contributed to its growth immensely in various capacities.
She was instrumental in establishing the Centre for Women Studies, which she headed in addition to the Department of Women Education.
She was a champion of women’s causes, according to a MANUU release.
Before joining the university, she had established an educational society almost 30 years back in the old city, primarily focusing on girls’ education.
She was also associated with several NGOs, the release said, adding that she received various awards in recognition of her outstanding services.
Dr. Rehana madam was a crusader of poor & trodden, she actively participated inspite of her I’ll health, she had set an example of dedication by her hard sincere work. Due her death, there will a vacume in the social work she had contributed, especially the women upliftment, and justice. May Allah grant a place in paradise. Ameen.
