Eminent Islamic scholar Maulana Wali Rahmani passes away

New Delhi: Maulana Wali Rahmani, a prominent Islamic scholar and educationalist, passed away at 77 on Saturday. He was ailing for the last few weeks and was under treatment in a hospital.

Maulana Rahmani was general secretary of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board; Amee-e-Shariat, Imarat Shariah, Bihar-Jharkhand & Odisha; and Sajjada Nashin of Khanqah Rahmania, Munger in Bihar. He was also the founder of Rahmani30 – a successful educational programme focused on preparing economically marginalised students for medical, IIT, CA, CS and LAW entrance tests.

All India Muslim Personal Law Board announced his demise on Twitter. It desbribed his death as an ”an irreparable loss for the entire Muslim Ummah”.

 

He was the founder of Rahmani30. Under this program, 30 meritorious candidates are selected every year from economically challenged sections of society and they are trained for the JEE, NEET, CA, CS and LAW entrance exams.

He also served as a Member of the Bihar Legislative Council from 1974 to 1996.

Samajwadi Party Abu Asim Azmi, among others, expressed his grief over Mr. Rahmani’s death. He wrote, ”In his death the Ummah has lost a great scholar who was always there to guide the Ummah in sensitive matters”.

Popular Front of India’s General Secretary Anis Ahmad, also expressed his condolences over Mr. Rahmani’s death. He added, ” He was a vocal supporter of Popular Front and always conveyed his solidarity with us on various issues.”
