New Delhi: The Congress-led UPA government an hour ago won the vote on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail in Lok Sabha with 253 MPs voting against the BJP motion challenging the government’s decision to allow 51% FDI in the sector while 218 voted for the motion.
The BSP and Samajwadi Party walked out of the House before voting, paving the way for the victory of the government. In all 471 votes were cast in the 543-member Lower House of Indian Parliament. The motion will be put on vote in Upper House – Rajya Sabha – also.
