First Assam-Nagaland talent meet organised by Stars of North East

Guwahati : The ‘Stars of North East’ (SoNE) felicitation team visited Dimapur in Nagaland on Saturday to participate in the first Assam-Nagaland Talent Meet which was hosted by Nationale Institute of Joint Entrance Examinations (NIJEE). It may be mentioned here that SoNE was set up in 2014 to hunt, nurture, and showcase talents in the society, especially for the unknown young achievers in the minority and other backward communities of the region. So far SoNE has felicitated over 15 young achievers from various parts of Assam. This was the first major event organised by SoNE outside Assam.

Welcoming the visiting youth leaders from Assam, Roshida Begum, General Manager of NIJEE, express jubilation over the fact that they were travelling to Nagaland at a time when the Hornbill Festival was on and expressed the hope that they would also be able to enjoy the fun, frolic, and hospitality of the State that will be in full blast until the forthcoming Christmas and New Year festivals. Suman Shah, Director, NIJEE, informed the visitors about the activities of his institute and took them round for a visit of different facilities available in it.

In a felicitation programme that followed, Nazneen Akhtar Tapadar of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, who stood first in the HSLC Examination conducted by the Nagaland Board of Secondary Education (NBSE) in 2015, was given the Star of NE award. She had scored a record 97.16 per cent mark in her examination. Gulabsa Khatun, a student of Pranab Vidyapith HS School, was felicitated for standing first in the HSSLC 2016 Examination of NBSE. Other students who received a plaque and certificate included – Sahajan Talukdar, 3rd rank holder in HSSLC 2016; Sajida Begum, 5th rank holder in HSLC 2016; Bipar Ahmed, 5th rank holder in HSSLC (Sc) 2016; and Asma Parveen, 7th rank holder in HSSLC 2016.

In addition, Tahmeed Rahman, presently studying at Jamia Millia University Delhi, was felicitated for his outstanding achievement in cricket. An alumnus of Christian HS School, Dimapur, Tahmeed, besides taking part in several national level cricket tournaments, is presently participating in the CB (U-19) Trophy matches as a member of the BCCI A&A combined team.

In the conversation session that followed, Salma Hussain, A human rights worker and Rehana Choudhury, brand management professional spoke on social responsibility and time management respectively. Ahidur Rahman, Working President, Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) thanked the members of SoNE for their novel initiative to boost the academic pursuits of the youngsters and assured all support from his organisation in all such endeavours in future.
