Four clerics associated with a New Delhi-based Islamic organisation were released on Tuesday from Dharamnagar jail in Tripura. They were arrested on 5 November during their visit to violence-affected areas.

They were booked under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). They have been identified as Qamar Ghani Usmani, Ehsanul Haque Razvi, Qari Aasif and Mudassir.

The clerics were about to land at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi at 8:10 PM on Wednesday, according to a Facebook post shared by the Tahreek Farogh e Islam organisation.

Lawyer Mahmood Pracha appeared for the accused in court.

Various incidents of violence against Muslims were reported from Tripura. Several visuals have emerged on social media that confirm allegations of anti-Muslim violence in the state. Locals Muslims have also alleged the same. However, the state police have denied such reports and have taken no action against the culprits. On the contrary, they have hounded lawyers, journalists and human rights activists for merely speaking about the violence.
