Girl dies in Kashmir road accident after stone pelting

Unrest in KashmirSrinagar, Sep 27 : A girl was killed and her sister injured on Tuesday when they were hit by an SUV driving fast in reverse gear after it was chased by a stone pelting mob on the Srinagar outskirts, police said.

“The sports utility vehicle was moving backwards after it faced heavy stone-pelting by a mob, and hit the two sisters,” a police spokesperson said.

The accident occurred near Rogan Gali in Parimpora of Srinagar. The victims were identified as Fozia and Nadia.

“Both were critically injured and were shifted to a hospital where the elder sister Fozia succumbed to her injuries.”

The spokesperson said one more person, Furqan Hamid, of Zoonimar in Srinagar, was also injured in a separate stone-pelting incident while he was riding a scooty near Eidgah.

He received head injuries but his condition was stable in a hospital.

Authorities did not impose curfew anywhere in the Srinagar city on Tuesday after improvement in situation following more than two-and-a-half months of unrest in the Kashmir Valley.—IANS
