Dr. M. H. Jawahirullah, an MLA of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and President of Tamilnadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam, in a statement, has said that he feels happy to walk along with Rahul Gandhi at Tuckalay to a part of the Bharat Jodo Yatra “to retrieve the nation from the clutches of ruthless repression and scandalous display of power.”
“I walk along with you with to ‘rediscover’ our nation and redeem its ‘soul from suppression to utterance’ of peace, harmony, tolerance, freedom and democracy, I walk along with a resolve to be with you ‘to wipe every tear from every eye.’” he said in the statement.
Every institution created with diligence in seventy years of congress rule to deliver the fruits of freedom to the common citizen has been infiltrated with forces that contradict the basic ethos of freedom and justice, according to the leader.
“Today divisive forces that believe in holding power by mongering hate have ruined the nation to such an extent that political authoritarianism has landed several concerned individuals fighting for justice in jails. The freedom acquired by our forefathers sacrificing their lives and privileges is constrained by people at the helm of affairs to hijack the legacy of our freedom movement.” he said.
“Rule of law which has ensured a vibrant political and social life of every citizen is being crushed to create a lawless society that benefits the privileged class to exploit the voiceless majority of the population.” the statement further read.
The Muslim community of India that had a promising role in constructing the pluralistic Idea of India as a result of 650 years of tolerant rule and utmost sacrifice during the freedom movement is today subjected to alienation and also threatened by disenfranchisement and establishment of Hindu Rashtra, according to the TMMK leader.
“I walk along with you as a symbol of the readiness of the Muslim community to spend sleepless nights to recreate the freedom Movement to ensure the ideals of our forefathers are not lost.” Jawahirullah said.
“It is an imminent national duty for every Indian to come together to strengthen the congress party and its secular allies to ensure that we relish our legacy of unity in diversity without giving in to the newly propounded alien divisive propaganda of fostering diversity in the inbuilt unity to destroy the 5000-year-old edifice of India.”
“The Indian Muslim Community and millions of Indians assure our support for this Yatra and henceforth all the political struggles you are going to endeavour in future to revive the Great Indian Dream, a dream to strive for fraternal co-existence with honour, dignity pride and esteem.” the statement read.
Bharat Jodho Yatra
On September 7, the Congress began its ostensibly long nationwide march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir with over 100 yatris, including former party president Rahul Gandhi.
According to the party leader, Rahul Gandhi, the rally is an attempt to “connect with people” and to “undo the damage caused by the BJP and RSS”.
Gandhi launched the party’s ambitious ‘Bharat Jodo yatra’ on Wednesday, declaring that he will not lose his country to hatred and accusing the BJP-RSS of attempting to divide the country along religious lines.
Speaking at the launch of the Congress’ 3,570-km ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ at a seaside rally venue, he said the country’s institutions are under attack, with the BJP and RSS attempting to frighten the opposition by using the Enforcement Directorate, the Central Bureau of Investigation, and the Income Tax Department.
“The problem is that they do not understand the Indian people. Indian people do not get scared. Does not matter how many hours of interrogation they do, does not matter. Not a single Opposition leader is going to be scared of the BJP,” Gandhi said.
The BJP believes it can divide the country along religious and linguistic lines, Gandhi claimed, adding that the country will always remain united.
“Some people, they look at the flag and they see three colours, a chakra and a piece of cloth and they salute the flag. But. This is much more than that.”
“And this flag did not come easily. It was not given to us. It was not a gift. It was earned by the Indian people,” Gandhi said.
