New Delhi: Referring to a petition in the Karnataka High Court to defer hearing on the ‘hijab’ controversy till the assembly elections are over, the BJP questioned the timing of the row and said the controversy was not a controversy but a conspiracy against India.
A petition has been filed in the High Court to postpone the hearing on the hijab controversy till the assembly elections in five states are over. The court said that the application is not listed and we can consider whether the request was made by the Election Commission or the authority conducting the elections.
Pointing to the petition, BJP national general secretary CT Ravi said, “In the present hijab row, the petitioner students have filed an application before the High Court to adjourn their case till the completion of elections in five states. What do students have to do with the assembly elections? Does anyone still believe that the hijab issue was not pre-planned?
He said, ‘Hijab controversy is not a controversy, it is a conspiracy against India.
The Karnataka High Court on Monday adjourned hearing on Tuesday on petitions filed in connection with the hijab controversy.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that the order of the Karnataka High Court on the Hijab controversy should be followed by all.
“Schools up to class 10 have reopened today (Monday). Few incidents have been reported from different districts. A meeting will be convened to discuss standard operating procedures. It is the responsibility of the school management, principal and parents to follow the orders of the High Court. This will create a conducive environment for the High Court to give its final decision. We should maintain restraint till then,” Bommai had said on Monday.
The hijab controversy, which began last month after six girl students at Udupi Pre-University College, refused to remove the hijab and refused to enter the classroom. The dispute has become a major issue in the state and has also attracted international attention.
