New Delhi, May 2: The Ministry of Human Resource Development has taken action on the appeal of some senior AMU alumni living in Delhi for opening two Kendriya Vidyalayas (central schools) in minority dominated Okhla area which despite having around 10 lakh Muslim population has no Kendriya Vidyalaya till date.
Muslim Mirror last month had prominently published the genuine concerns of senior AMU alumni P.Mohammad and Mohammad Aslam about the absence of basic amenities of health and education in Okhla area which includes densely Muslim populated Jamia Nagar and Abul Fazl Enclave. They had demanded the central ministries of Health & Family Welfare and Human Resource Development to set up a well-equipped central hospital and two central schools in the most neglected Okhla minority cluster in the very backyard of corridors of power in Delhi. They also wrote a letter to the HRD Ministry in this regard.
Taking notice of the concerns of the AMU alumni, HRD Ministry has sought comments from the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan urgently over the demand of opening two central schools in Okhla area.
“I am directed to enclose herewith a copy of an Email letter from Mr. P Mohammad on the subject mentioned above. The letter is self-explanatory. KVS is requested to furnish comments in the matter to this Ministry urgently,” wrote Mr. Sanjay Singh, Section Officer, Dept. of School Education and Literacy, HRD Ministry in his letter dated 8th April 2013 to the Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan.
The AMU alumni have suggested the HRD Ministry that a vast piece of land of Uttar Pradesh government is lying unused in the heart of Jamia Nagar, which can be used for the purpose of schools.
““There are enough UP Government land available in their neighbourhood and if Govt. of India is sincere then both the ministries can write a letter to UP Govt to transfer this land for these vital services. Any available govt land in any neighbour of a population has a right to demand for the very basic services. These vast tracts of available land within the irrigation ministry of UP Govt have no use for any irrigation department purpose and this is matter of willingness for the Central Govt of Delhi to demand this land for their optimal use,” senior AMU alumni P Mohammad and Mohammad Aslam told Muslim Mirror.
For quite some time, the duo has been lobbying in the corridors of power for development projects in minority areas. Recently they had visited Finance Ministry to express concern on the low budget for minority ministry.
