Kolkata: Shahi Imam Maulana Noor-ur-Rehman Barkati, who was a minister in the earlier West Bengal’s TMC government, was caught saying ‘Muslim votes can be changed with money’ in a sting operation. This sting operation was done by the English Channel Times Now, which was broadcast on Friday.

Barkati is claiming that the feelings of Muslims in Bengal have changed. “People are beginning to love the BJP,” he is being caught saying in the sting video. Barkati said that if the BJP gives five crore rupees, then he can arrange for five lakh Muslim votes.

Maulana Barkati further said “BJP is targeting 22 seats in West Bengal. But I am telling that the BJP will win 28 seats in Bengal. If Muslims had not voted for Mamta in the last election, what would she have done? I will fail all rallies of Muslims, if BJP gives me money.”

“The biggest Imam is money. The BJP has money. If he spends money in Bengal, you will see how the votes of Muslims go in favor of the BJP. Nothing comes in free.” Barkati added claiming that the BJP will get at least 10 percent Muslim votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

It is pertinent to mention that Maulana Barkati is the Imam of the mosque of Kolkata and is being counted among the close associates of Mamata Banerjee.
